Horses are majestic and beautiful animals, so it’s easy to see how someone can be hypnotized when this graceful animal prances in front of them. Unfortunately, all horses are not the same and because of this you will need to follow a simple set of rules to make sure you have the best horse ownership experience possible.
Don’t Buy On Impulse
Impulse buying rarely pans out to be what you thought, but buying a horse on impulse can be a huge mistake. Even if the horse is absolutely wonderful and its a great price the first time you see it, you should at least wait a few days before returning to see the horse again. Be sure to ride the horse each time you visit it (only do this if you are a serious buyer) and try to get to know the horse’s personality a bit. It’s also beneficial to look at other horses to use as a comparison against the horse you’re thinking about buying. If you’re still planning on buying a horse at first sight, just watch the episode of “Rob and Big” where they go and buy a mini-horse on impulse. If you still want to get a horse after watching that 20 minute episode, by all means go out and do it.
Buy A Horse the Suits Your Needs
While it would be nice to show off your new champion race horse to your friends and neighbors, it won’t do you much good if you can only control a tame lazy horse. Get a horse that suits your riding style and experience level. Also make sure that the horse you are wanting will be able to cope to its new home well. Ex racing horses may seem like an amazing deal, but these horses are high strung and are ready to run anytime they hear loud music or people on megaphones.
Buying A Horse that Resembles Another Horse
You would be surprised at the number of people who go out and buy horses just because they look like another horse they adored previously in their life. Don’t go out and only buy a horse with this mindset. Keep that memory untouchable in your mind and start a new memory with a different animal.
